Leimert Park Jazz Festival brings its popular Sunday Jazz monthly concert series to The Ford to celebrate the centennial birthday of the legendary trumpeter Miles Davis. Grammy-nominated pianist John Beasley, a former member of Miles’ band, traces the evolution of Miles through distinct creative eras. He and his band illuminate Miles’ relentless commitment to reinvention, from the groundbreaking Birth of the Cool to the lyricism of Kind of Blue to the electric and fusion explorations of the 1970s and beyond. On the program’s second half, innovators from the Leimert Park Jazz Festival Emerging Artists Collective enter into new artistic terrain, following the tradition of evolution that Davis embodied. Join us for a night that is a living exploration of Miles Davis’ spirit of risk, experimentation, and forward motion.

A record-breaking album by the West Coast-cool Dave Brubeck Quartet, Time Out broke records and conventions alike, becoming the first jazz album to sell a million copies, and its single "Take Five" was the first jazz single to sell one million copies. An album with all-original pieces, exploring a variety of musical styles and time signatures, the album was inducted into the GRAMMY® Hall of Fame and was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

Led by the charismatic Marin-raised saxophonist Nicole McCabe and the virtuoso bassist Logan Kane, known to SFJAZZ audiences as a former member of the High School All-Stars, the duo crafts a soundscape where rollicking synths collide with unhinged dance rhythms, creating an unforgettable auditory adventure.

McCabe is part of the creative ferment that has energized the Los Angeles jazz scene in recent years, and in many ways her music has been shaped by the people and environment that define the West Coast.

A gifted and award-winning vibraphonist, composer, and producer, San Francisco native Sasha Berliner brings music from her upcoming album Fantome to this homecoming performance. Berliner began on drums at eight and attended the Oakland School for the Arts, studying with Howard Wiley and Dave Ellis before becoming a two-year member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Orchestra, performing with the Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and Stanford Jazz Workshops.
