Pianist

Meeting at Enjoy Jazz Festival in Germany where they were both artist-in-residence, Nik Bärtsch and Tania Giannouli have created a mouth-watering genre-fluid piano duo. Sensual, hypnotic and dynamic, this duo has impressed audiences in concert halls across Europe. They have been called “ideal musical partners”, each bringing something different, yet remaining true to themselves and the spectacular music that they make together.

A Norwegian trumpeter and a Greek pianist: it is hard to imagine greater contrasts in temperature and temperament. And yet, Nils Petter Molvær and Tania Giannouli meet effortlessly in a surprisingly organic dialogue. Improvising all possible directions, they explore an eclectic sonic universe where boundaries between genres blur.

Even the limits of their instruments are pushed: Giannouli ventures inside her piano with various objects, while Molvær manipulates his trumpet sounds with electronics or blows directly into the piano.
