After a lengthy closure, the venerable Behnhaus in Lübeck will reopen this November. In anticipation of this reopening, Gianmarco Martino and his ensemble will give a concert in the neighboring Haus Eden. The program explores the Italian focus of the Museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus's art collection, particularly the theme of longing, as expressed in the paintings of many travelers to Italy. Longing is also very present in the music of the Mezzogiorno, either directly or in canzones based on related emotions such as homesickness, longing, yearning, and desire. The musical journey of this soundscape concert leads from Naples to Sicily, following the longings and desires of the people living there.
