'Life in the countryside is wonderful,' or so they say—but not for Sonja and her Uncle Vanya. For 25 years, they have worked tirelessly to keep the family farm afloat, in part to support Sonja’s father, a professor living in the city. Now, having retired and fallen on hard times, he has moved to the farm with his much younger wife, Jelena—whose beauty proves a dangerous distraction for both Vanya and the doctor, Astrov.
