Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Aristo Sham shines in Shenzhen with Rachmaninov’s technically and emotionally demanding Third Piano Concerto – a summit of the repertoire famed for its sweeping melodies, formidable virtuosity and symphonic scale. Under the baton of Roberto Abbado, the distinguished Italian conductor from one of music’s great dynasties, the programme opens with Shostakovich’s youthful First Symphony, written at just 19, bristling with razor-sharp wit and haunting lyricism. From sardonic modernism to lush romanticism, this concert promises a blazing musical feast.

Enrico then takes advantage of Edgardo's prolonged absence to successfully undermine the marriage he has rejected and make Lucia agree to accept Arturo, whom she does not want. When Edgardo unexpectedly bursts into the middle of Lucia and Arturo's wedding celebrations and accuses Lucia of infidelity, she finally breaks down inside: In a fit of madness, she kills Arturo on their wedding night and dies herself shortly afterwards. When Edgardo learns of her death, he stabs himself.

The most iconic work in the concert hall: Beethoven's 9th Symphony is the epitome of classical orchestral music for music lovers around the globe. We share goosebumps when the human voices join the music in the ecstatic final movement.

For 200 years, this particular symphony has celebrated freedom and community. Today, more than ever before, it is living, organic proof that great classical music is a unifying and strengthening force.
