Featuring baritone Thomas Coltman and pianist Lana Bode, the evening unfolds with a diverse selection of works by renowned composers. From the introspective beauty of Strauss's "Morgen" to the evocative longing of Vaughan-Williams' "Songs of Travel," each piece unveils a unique voice and perspective that highlight the range and scope of vocal chamber music.

Our season finale features a new work by American composer Lori Laitman. Her beautiful piece Becoming a Redwood features tenor Chad Somers, singing the poetry of Dana Gioia. The marvelous woodwinds of LAS are front and center in Richard Strauss’ youthful Serenade in E-flat. After also hearing the tunes of Dvořák’s sunny and sumptuous Symphony No. 6, we’ll send you out singing.

The natural world is filled with music. Louis Gottschalk set out to capture the sounds of the tropics at night and their Latin rhythms by day in his only symphony, A Night in the Tropics. Grofé heard a very different sonic landscape as he composed a musical journey through the Grand Canyon in his iconic Grand Canyon Suite. Most recently, Lori Laitman imagines the journey of life through melodic roots and branches in her Becoming a Redwood. **Maya and the Magic Ring at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City**

Dive into a world of enchantment and whimsy with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City's latest family opera, "Maya and the Magic Ring." This captivating new opera tells the story of Maya, a young girl who stumbles upon a magical ruby ring among her grandmother's possessions. When she rubs the jewel, a genie emerges, setting off a series of chaotic events as Maya's innocent wishes bring her cat and toy unicorn to life. Faced with the consequences of her wishes, Maya must make a wise choice for her final wish.
