Jules Massenet’s lush score is the centerpiece of this immersive opera experience placing the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and Chorus on stage alongside the cast. Conducted by Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra Music Director Timothy Myers, the romantic French music, crowned with the famous Méditation for violin and orchestra, is unmitigated by pit walls, resulting in this profound new concert-staged production. Soprano Nicole Heaston, from Spoleto’s 2023 Vanessa, portrays the enigmatic Thaïs. Alongside her, baritone Troy Cook embodies the conflicted Athanaël. Together, they will guide you through a captivating tale of love, lust, and spiritual awakening.

In a graveyard north of the Rio Grande, a woman is awakened from death after sixteen years.  She claws herself out of her grave.  Called by the spirit of vengeance, her past rushes back: the loss of her beloved babies and her death at the hands of her former husband. Writer/composer Celeste Moreno and arranger Bethany Brinton weave  traditional Latin American musical forms, popular music and the legend of La Llorona, the weeping woman, to create a new kind of ghost story.

Ariodante is a beautiful opera seria composed by the prolific Baroque master George Frideric Handel in 1735. These will be its first-ever Pittsburgh performances.
Set in Medieval Scotland, Ariodante tells a tale of love, jealousy, deception, and redemption. Princess Ginevra, daughter of the King, loves and is betrothed to Prince Ariodante. Faithful to Ariodante, Ginevra rejects the advances of the vile Polinesso, Duke of Albany, who views Ginevra as a path to the throne. Dalinda, a lady of the court who has feelings for Polinesso, explains to Polinesso that Ginevra is marrying Ariodante.
Polinesso cynically tricks Dalinda into making it appear that Ginevra has been unfaithful to Ariodante. Both Ariodante and the King fall for the ruse. Ariodante contemplates suicide, and the King not only condemns his daughter, but disowns her too.
His trick proving successful, Polinesso orders his henchmen to kill the only witness to his plot—Dalinda. Ariodante, still grief-stricken at what he believes was Ginevra’s betrayal, runs off the henchmen and saves Dalinda. Dalinda, realizing that her love for Polinesso was a colossal mistake, explains to Ariodante that Ginevra was framed, and that Ginevra has been faithful to Ariodante all along.
Dalinda and Ariodante must work together to clear Ginevra’s name, and the King must learn of Polinesso’s treachery, so that Ariodante and Ginevra can live happily ever afte

But being a ladies’ man (or so he’d like to think), he drunkenly schemes to cash in on his wit and charm by wooing the wealthy wives of Windsor, Alice Ford and Meg Page. However, when these women uncover that he has sent them both identical love letters, they hatch a plan of their own to teach Falstaff a lesson he won’t soon forget!

In a vibrant Jewish shtetl on the eve of upheaval, Tevye, the enduring dairyman, grapples with his daughters’ dreams of love while clinging to the customs that provide his world’s structural integrity. In one of America’s most diverse immigrant hubs, this story of heritage, adaptation, and belonging is deeply personal, a reflection of San Jose’s own balancing act between honoring the past and stepping bravely into the future. OSJ favorite Eugene Brancoveanu makes his role debut as Tevye, joined by Nicole Koh as Tzeitel and Melissa Sondhi as Hodel. Celebrated conductor George Manahan returns to the podium alongside director Crystal Manich to reignite this celebration of joy and human resilience on the California Theatre Stage.
