The Albany Symphony, long known for celebrating the breadth of American culture through new music, continues its community-building work with Convergence, a three-year collaborative project through which the Symphony, Capital Region communities, and nationally acclaimed artistic partners join together in an exploration of three Black American art forms. Funded by the Carl E. Touhey Foundation, Convergence will build community-wide awareness of our contemporary world through artistic inquiry and musical creation.

This concert will be the recording premiere of Michael Daugherty’s Blue Electra. This will be the Albany Symphony’s 3rd recording of Daugherty’s work, joining the ranks with Dreammachine and This Land Sings!

Praised for her evocative lyricism and joyful, genuine approach, guest violinist Aubree Oliverson masterfully performs Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto.

There are few pieces in the repertoire that have inspired audiences like Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9. Deeply rooted in American folk traditions, Dvořák composed the grand work while living in New York, taking inspiration from the sights and sounds of "The New World."
