She produces sounds that come from deep within the throat: Inuk Tanya Tagaq. "Kattajaq" is the name of this centuries-old, traditional Inuit throat singing, part of the cultural heritage of her ancestors. The singer grew up in Nunavut, Canada – one of the northernmost populated regions in the world, predominantly inhabited by Inuit people. Her musical breakthrough came spontaneously and unexpectedly as a support act for none other than Björk. Although the world tour also took her to Germany, it didn't end up in Hamburg – something the "Arctic Voices" festival is now delighted to make up for.
