Launch of the first album by the Innu soprano from Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Élisabeth St-Gelais, dedicated to the masters of French melody. Entitled Infini after the melody of the French composer, Cécile Chaminade, the album also includes melodies by Bizet, Duparc, Poulenc and Saint-Saëns.

Two musical Dames at the very tops of their respective professions – Dame Sarah Connolly received The King’s Medal for Music in 2023, whilst Dame Imogen Cooper received the late Queen’s Medal for Music in 2019 – once again join together in recital as they previously have to considerable acclaim at such venues as the Cheltenham Festival and the Oxford International Song Festival. ‘The warm relationship between both performers came across in their performance and the audience was delighted’, wrote the Henley Standard. The programme includes songs both familiar and unfamiliar , including Loewe’s setting of texts better known from Schumann and examples by the neglected Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck.

The universally admired Swedish artist received the Female Singer of the Year Award at the International Opera Awards in 2018, the same year that she was awarded the title of Court Singer by Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Her operatic roles – many of them performed at the Royal Opera House in London or at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as in Sweden and elsewhere – run from Mozart to Puccini, Richard Strauss and Janáček. Her widely ranging programme explores songs from the French, German (or in Weill’s case from his post-German period) and Swedish traditions.

Mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton—hailed as “a once-in-a-generation voice” by Opera magazine—makes her highly anticipated Festival debut in a recital with renowned pianist Julius Drake. Barton’s passion for telling stories through song provides the vibrant underpinning for an enthralling and eclectic program of works by Dvořák, Ives, Duparc, and Sibelius.

Join us for an enchanting evening of music at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University, as we present a student recital featuring the exceptional talents of Alexis Ortega Chavez, Ryan Huo, and Collin Jinks. This special performance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 8:30pm CDT in the Regenstein Master Class Room.

Alexis Ortega Chavez, a tenor and Bachelor of Music student, alongside Ryan Huo, a violinist and Master of Music student, and Collin Jinks, a pianist also pursuing a Master of Music, will grace the stage under the guidance of their esteemed instructors Theresa Brancaccio, Blair Milton, and James Giles. The evening's repertoire includes a selection of poignant and evocative pieces:

- Henri Duparc's "Chanson triste"
- A series of Franz Schubert's masterpieces including "Frühlingsglaube," "Nacht und Träume," "Du bist die Ruh," "Der Zwerg," and "Auf dem Wasser zu singen"
- Duparc's "Le manoir de Rosemonde"
- César Franck's "Violin Sonata in A Major"

This event is a celebration of the hard work and dedication of our students and a showcase of their incredible talent and passion for music. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. For those unable to attend in person, we are pleased to offer a live stream of the performance.

The Regenstein Master Class Room, with seating for 200, is located in the Regenstein Hall of Music, adjacent to the Ryan Center for the Musical Arts at 60 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL 60208. Every Carnegie Hall debut is a notable event, and recitals in the intimate Weill Recital Hall can be especially powerful for artist and audience alike. Simon Bode is an acclaimed tenor whose “voice radiates a charisma and intensity that requires no reinforcement” (Bachtrack), and in this recital debut he performs a program of 19th-century art song and opera, including works by Wagner, Duparc, Liszt, and Wolf.

For the final piano-vocal recital of the season, husband-and-wife duo Jennifer Johnson Cano and Christopher Cano perform songs by 19th-century Romantic composers Bellini, Grieg, and Duparc as well as the 21st-century song cycle Nights Not Spent Alone, by leading English composer Jonathan Dove, whose text comes from poems by early-20th-century American poet Edna St. Vincent Millay.
