Join us for an exquisite afternoon of viola music performed by the talented Tristin Saito at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music. This captivating recital is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2:30pm CDT in the stunning Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall. Tristin, a Bachelor of Music student under the guidance of Weijing Michal, Jasmine Meyer, and Nathan Canfield, will showcase his mastery through a diverse program featuring works by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Paul Hindemith, and Max Reger.

Internationally-acclaimed violinist and Sphinx Competition laureate Melissa White was recently appointed Professor of Music at UB. She performs the sweeping Violin Concerto No. 2 of Florence Price in a program also featuring two rarely performed works; Reger’s Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Beethoven and Mendelssohn’s “Reformation.”

The MSO’s Principal Oboe Katherine Young Steele takes center stage with Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, one of the most treasured showpieces for the instrument. Music Director Ken-David Masur opens this celebration of Mozart’s genius with his staggeringly inventive “Haffner” Symphony; later, composer Max Reger plays expressive musical games with the opening theme of Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 11.

From the deeply dramatic and textural landscape of Claude Debussy, the human vulnerability of Robert Schumann, to the precocious, awe-inspiring genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, much is to be heard in each of these dynamic works of art. Max Reger rounds out the program with his incredibly passionate Piano Trio No. 1 in B Minor, showcasing the young 18-year-old composer’s musical and technical maturity and brimming with bravura, sensitivity, and promise.

Join us for an enchanting evening of chamber music at the Chamber Music Workshop Teachers’ Concert, presented by the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. This special event is set to take place on Thursday, 13th April 2023, at 8:00 pm in the serene setting of Tutzing at the Evangelische Akademie.

The concert will showcase a meticulously curated programme featuring the works of Albert Franz Doppler, Max Reger, and Antonín Dvořák. The evening will commence with Doppler's "Souvenir du Rigi," followed by Reger's "Trio op. 141 a." After a brief interval, the performance will culminate with Dvořák's "Piano quartet Nr. 2 E-flat Major, op. 87."

The stage will be graced by an ensemble of distinguished musicians, including Ivanna Ternay on flute, Carsten Carey Duffin on horn, Andrea Eun-Jeong Kim on violin, Christiane Hörr-Kalmer on viola, Uta Zenke-Vogelmann on violoncello, and Lukas Maria Kuen on piano. These talented performers will bring to life the rich textures and melodies of the featured compositions, promising an unforgettable musical experience.
