Something magical happens in the nursery at midnight: a magic fairy brings the two children’s toys to life with her song, resulting in chaos. Whether jumping jack, princess or dinosaur, all of them suddenly have a mind of their own. The teddy bear does a tap dance, and the puppets dance too! Sleep is out of the question. Kurt Weill’s children’s pantomime <em>Zaubernacht</em> (Magic Night) invites young and old to dreams and astonishment, with enchanting music and rousing dance rhythms

“Magic Night”

The great pine trees of Rome have watched over the city for centuries. They have witnessed children playing in sun-drenched gardens, nightingales singing at dusk, morning mist drifting over the landscape. Ottorino Respighi captured these moods in his dazzling tone poem Pini di Roma (The Pines of Rome). Together with Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker, audiences embark on a musical journey through the Italian capital – and discover its distinctive sound world.

Mathis the Painter dreams of creating a magnificent  altarpice. He pours all his skill, his imagination, his best ideas, and his emotions into the paintings. Their expressive power touches all who see them – including Paul Hindemith, who based his symphony Mathis der Maler on the artwork. In this music, the composer built a bridge between the worlds of painting and music. Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker show how colours, shapes and feelings can come alive in sound.
