Join us for an enchanting evening of vocal music as Paula Perez-Glassner, a talented soprano from the Northwestern Bienen School of Music, presents her student recital. Scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 6:00pm CDT, this performance will take place in the intimate setting of the McClintock Choral and Recital Room, located within the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Center for the Musical Arts.

Under the guidance of her instructor, Nancy Gustafson, Paula will showcase her vocal prowess through a diverse repertoire. The evening will feature a selection of works ranging from the baroque elegance of George Frideric Handel's "L’empio rigor del fato" from Rodelinda to the contemporary charm of Mark Adamo's "Joy beyond measure, Mother" from Little Women. Attendees will also be treated to the romantic melodies of Claude Debussy, including "Clair de lune," "Nuit d’étoiles," and "Mandoline," as well as the captivating tunes of Robert Stolz and the timeless classics of Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerry Bock, and Lucy Simon.

Accompanying Paula on this musical journey will be Peggy Helman, mezzo-soprano, and Jason Carlson on piano, adding depth and harmony to the evening's performance.

Experience the enchanting world of "The Secret Garden" at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, a musical adaptation of Francis Hodson Burnett's classic tale. With book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, this Tony Award-winning musical invites audiences into the heartwarming story of Mary Lennox. Orphaned in India and sent to England to live with her Uncle Archibald and his son Colin, Mary discovers a hidden, neglected garden on the estate. As she embarks on a journey of restoration, healing, and friendship, the garden blooms anew, symbolizing hope and renewal for all.

This production promises a captivating experience, blending stunning performances with a powerful narrative of forgiveness. The artistic team, led by Director Ken Hildebrandt and Musical Director Beckie Evans, brings this story to life with exquisite set designs by Matthew Piton, beautiful costumes by Dani Dejong, and atmospheric lighting by Gabe Kirkley. The cast features talented actors, including Donna Craig, Claire Holmes, and Michael Holman, who will transport you to the magical world of Misselthwaite Manor.

Running for a limited time from March 17 to March 25, 2023, with evening shows at 7:30 PM and matinees at 2:00 PM, "The Secret Garden" is suitable for all ages. However, please note that the production includes water-based haze & fog effects, sudden loud sounds, and flashing/strobing lighting effects. Follow young, orphaned Mary Lennox as she's sent from her home in India to live with her reclusive uncle on his haunted English country estate.
