Raven Chacon, a Diné composer and sound artist, conjures sonic landscapes that pulse with history, resistance, and a responsiveness to place. His work—whether as a soloist, collaborator, or with the collective Postcommodity—weaves noise, chamber music, and Indigenous storytelling into something visceral and unshakable. A Pulitzer Prize winner and mentor to young Native composers, Chacon’s music hums with the echoes of the land and the tension of the present, challenging ears and expectations alike. Originally commissioned by the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, who co-present this performance, Chacon’s American Ledger No. 3 is scored for two women’s choirs and dedicated to journalist, activist, and Chicagoan Ida B. Wells. The piece is a powerful addition to the artist’s ongoing American Ledger series and is staged in Chicago for the first time.

Experience the monumental power of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the esteemed Fabio Luisi. This iconic masterpiece, known for its compelling four-note opening and triumphant journey from darkness to light, promises an uplifting and unforgettable evening. The performances are scheduled from February 6 to February 9, 2025, at the magnificent Meyerson Symphony Center, offering a perfect setting to witness the symphony's dramatic shifts and emotional depth.

The concert series will also feature the romantic allure of Bruch's Violin Concerto, brought to life by the DSO's Concertmaster, Alexander Kerr, whose interpretation is expected to be both rich and seductive. Adding to the excitement, the event will open with the world premiere of a major orchestral work by Pulitzer Prize-winning Native American composer Raven Chacon. This piece, discovered by Fabio Luisi, marks a significant addition to the contemporary orchestral repertoire and is anticipated to be a grand celebration of music and culture.
