One of the Festival’s long-standing traditions is the late-night jam session, the perfect finale to a day of music. Starting after midnight, these sessions go on as long as musicians want to play. The heart of the session is a “house band”, a quintet that has already performed in both Perugia and Orvieto, led by Piero Odorici and Daniele Scannapieco. These two bop-inspired and internationally appreciated saxophonists are among the top Italian jazz musicians. Odorici and Scannapieco are experienced jazzmen, and their band (Art Hirahara on piano, Aldo Zunino on double bass, and Joe Santoro on drums) recreates the fervent atmosphere loved by night owls.

For some years now, this house band has performed at the most recent summer and winter editions of Umbria Jazz as a resident band and the heart of the night-time jam sessions. The rhythm section now includes Luca Mannutza on piano, Jason Weaver on double bass, and Willie Jones III on drums.
