Macbeth has achieved much. As a military commander, he is respected. But witches prophesy greater things for him and awaken greed within him. With the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth seizes power. Spurred on by his power-hungry wife, he sets in motion a cruel spiral of violence and crime.

Aida is a slave at the Egyptian court. She is the king’s daughter from the enemy country of Ethiopia but has fallen in love with the Egyptian military leader Radamès. Her father Amonasro uses her to learn about the military strategy of his adversaries. Meanwhile, Amneris, the Egyptian king’s daughter, uses everything in her power to fight for her love for Radamès and tries to kill her rival. Everyone is at the mercy of a ruthless cartel of priests and warriors.

Chief conductor Gedschold was educated in Leipzig and later served as music director at the city's famous opera house. Leipzig was also Bach's hometown for 27 years – it was here that he composed the St. John Passion and the other famous religious works. Gedschold is closely associated with Bach's Leipzig works, of which he is a masterful interpreter. In just a few years, he has already conducted his Danish orchestra in Bach's  Christmas Oratorio ,  St. Matthew Passion and  B minor Mass . Now he completes the list with  the St. John Passion together with four internationally sought-after singing soloists and Holmen's Cantori.

Verdi's most frequently performed opera, about the life, love, suffering, and death of a courtesan in 19th-century Paris, strikes a chord deep within. Violetta Valéry lives in the luxury of being kept by courtesans, but she is suffering from tuberculosis. Only Alfredo Germont, for whose love Violetta ultimately abandons her old life, notices. But the past catches up with Violetta: Alfredo's father demands that she break up with his son to save the family honor. She submits to his will and leaves Alfredo. Only in the hour of her death are the two lovers reunited. Too late, of course. Verdi's Traviata—the one who has strayed from the straight and narrow—is a woman who was misunderstood by the society of her time, and whose fate Verdi immortalizes in music of sublime beauty.

He tried to defy God and the forces of nature. Therefore, the Flying Dutchman was condemned to wander the seas endlessly. Only the faithful love of a woman can bring him salvation. Senta wants to be this savior and resolutely confronts the mysterious figure. Two extreme personalities stand opposed, similar in their uncompromising nature and not afraid of death.

With his first fully realized opera, the young Richard Wagner achieved a superb portrayal of the forces of nature and the terrifying: a seething sea of ​​sound in a state of extreme chaos!

The evening begins with the joyous Rutter Magnificat, followed by Serenade to Music, a much-loved piece with words by Shakespeare and featuring all the soloists. After the interval all the performers join together to perform the wonderful Mozart Requiem.
