Acclaimed French pianist Alexandre Kantorow makes his debut with The Friends in a program that blends profound Romanticism with visionary modernism. Hailed as a “fire-breathing virtuoso with a poetic charm,” Kantorow offers a fascinating journey through some of the piano repertoire’s most expressive works. The recital opens with Liszt’s majestic Variations on a Motive by Bach, followed by Medtner’s expansive early Sonata Op. 5. The journey continues through the lyricism of Chopin and the mysticism of Scriabin, culminating in the autumnal transcendence of Beethoven’s Op. 111.

Istanbul-born pianist Hüseyin Sermet not only plays Franz Liszt’s demanding B minor Sonata at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, but also the »Petites Fantaisies« by French composer Charles-Valentin Alkan. His ludicrously virtuosic works even frightened Liszt, the lion of the keyboard, but Sermet can confidently go the whole hog – after all, he has won several awards for his recordings of compositions by Liszt and Alkan.

German pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati has earned a formidable reputation for her stellar Bach performances. Her international breakthrough came in 2014 as an award winner at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig and particularly through her increasing musical collaboration with Sir András Schiff who praised the "astonishing clarity, purity, and maturity" as well as the musical comprehension associated with it when she plays Bach.

Experience the Carnegie Hall debut of Schaghajegh Nosrati, a phenomenal pianist praised by Sir András Schiff for her “astonishing clarity, purity, and maturity.” J. S. Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue makes for an exciting opening, as “Nosrati is a captivating Bachian; rhythmically infectious, supremely intelligent” (BBC Music Magazine). Beethoven’s beautiful “Pastoral” piano sonata, an uncommonly spacious work, follows. The concert’s second half begins with a spritely, fleet-fingered Haydn fantasia, while Alkan’s wonderfully varied (and woefully underperformed) piano symphony ends the performance in thrilling fashion.
