For several years now, the orchestra of the Musical Comedy has been performing the closing concert of the city festival on the stage at Augustusplatz. With soloists and ballet, the people of Leipzig can expect a musical fireworks display of well-known operettas and musicals.

Two Peters. One Peter rules a country and needs a break from it. The other Peter is also in hiding and is madly in love. The two meet in a shipyard and are mistaken for each other. With »The Little Tsar«, written and narrated by Juri Tetzlaff, young audiences aged 6 and over are given access to Albert Lortzing's story and music to »Tsar and Carpenter«.

A Russian tsar, a small-town mayor, a shipyard worker, and three foreign diplomats meet in the time of Peter I. In the middle of it all, Marie fights with heart and mind for her groom. Like many of Lortzing's other operas, Zar und Zimmermann premiered in Leipzig. One of the Musical Comedy's artistic goals is to cultivate Lortzing's works, in order to keep the composer alive and well in the musical city of Leipzig.

Holidays at last: check into a beautiful hotel and unwind – ideally with a view of the water. But no: at the hotel “Weißes Rössl” (“The White Horse Inn”) on the shores of the lake “Wolfgangsee”, things are going haywire. Farewell relaxation! The inn is completely packed, work and personal life become indistinguishable, and both staff and guests are wildly in love, which, due to mix-ups and secrets, keeps ending in chaos. After layoffs, dismissals and tears, however, a few things can be clarified – both professionally and privately. The next holiday is bound to follow!

The White Horse Inn

The young conductors from »Forum Dirigieren« of »Deutscher Musikrat« can once again discover the world of operetta with our ensemble and orchestra, present themselves on the conductor's podium at the New Year's Concert, where they may be rewarded with the audience prize. In 2026, the inventor of operetta will take center stage: we will travel to Jacques Offenbach in Paris and also make a few detours to the opera.

With the premiere of "The Csárdás Princess," Emmerich Kálmán established himself as one of the operetta world's greats. With hits like "You Can't Do Without Women," "That's Love," "The Girls, the Girls," and "Let's Do It Like the Swallows," he won over the hearts of audiences, transporting them into the glamorous world of the theater with the story of the dazzling chansonnière Sylva Varescu.

They're crazy, the men! While the violinist Orpheus is absorbed in his profession and escapes into an affair to distract himself from his unfulfilled marriage to his wife Eurydice, the underworld god Pluto takes a liking to her and steals her into his realm under the guise of her lover Aristeus. He's rid of her, Orpheus rejoices! Later, the underworld servant Styx and the chief god of Olympus, Jupiter, scent their chances with Eurydice. And the women? Well, Jupiter's wife Juno immediately blames her husband for everything, and Eurydice has fun elsewhere until she becomes the plaything of the suitors. At least the personified public opinion is stepping up to the plate and putting them in their place. But Eurydice is fed up anyway and would rather have a drink with the Bacchantes. Cheers!

Having a charming, singing housekeeper save an operetta performance is in itself quite a fabulous theatrical highlight. And when the sidewalks of Montmartre respectively. the atelier of painting, composing and writing bohemians provides the tableau for amorous entanglements, and when the maître d' of the silver operetta era, Emmerich Kálmán, lends his work, premiered in 1930, the refined je ne sais quoi along with a fountain of catchy earworms, “Violet of Montmartre” has everything that is needed for a classy, ​​melancholic, upbeat operetta evening with a touch of signature Parisian perfume.

The young widow Selma has sworn off men, and together with her friends, founded the “Lose the Man” club. But a prank turns into confusion: who's marrying whom? Who's the man - and who's the woman? This entertaining operetta is an unknown gem from the pen of the man who wrote “The Merry Widow” and “Land des Smiles”.

The Fool's Marriage

Tevye the milkman is poor in terms of money, but rich in terms of women: five daughters! Three of them of marriageable age. But it soon becomes clear that the young women's dreams do not conform to either the plans of the matchmaker, Yente, or those of their father, who dreams so avidly of "If I were a rich man". In this cult musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1964 and won nine Tony Awards, riveting dance scenes and full-scale show numbers underscore moments of a father whose dreams and hopes resonate deeply.

In order to protect herself from the onslaught of potential marriage candidates, beautiful Countess Mariza fakes an engagement with Zsupán, a landowner from Warasdin, magnanimously inviting all of local newspapers to their engagement party. But when Zsupán suddenly appears in the flesh before Mariza, the chaos is complete. With Gräfin Mariza, Kálmán managed to repeat the recipe for success he first used for Die Csárdásfürstin.
