Works inspired by nature are presented on this delightful program featuring NMSO Concertmaster Jenny Grégoire in a sublime work by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The program also includes the Eastern U.S. premiere of an evocative new work by Sara Carina Graef inspired by the Yaqo’n Indian tribe of Oregon and accompanied by images of the Yakona Nature Preserve and its abundance of Sitka spruce trees and the oyster-rich Yaquina Bay. Beethoven’s ode to nature, his exquisite Symphony No. 6, the Pastoral, is also featured.

Five monumental Russian composers raise their voices in this concert. Tchaikovsky’s soaring and soulful melodies live on through this tribute from his disciple Anton Arensky. We feature Principal Cellist Moisés Molina in Rachmaninoff’s endless melody, the <i>Vocalise</i>. And writing in the year of the Russian Revolution, “bad boy” Prokofiev serves up a cheeky take on music’s classical roots.
