Artistic Director Debra Nagy has  daringly re-arranged Autumn, Winter, and Spring for an ensemble of soloists, dividing up the material originally written for solo violin to be passed between two violins, oboe, flute, bassoon, harpsichord, and viola da gamba. For Summer, Nagy has an even more ambitious design: a brand-new concerto built from works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, the doyen of 18th-century theatrical music. Audiences will enjoy tunes they already love, reimagined in technicolor, embracing the full spectrum of colors, textures, and expressivity of its peerless ensemble of period instrument musicians.

The Baroque Orchestra and Early Music Singers join vocalists from the Historical Performance Program (CWRU) and the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) to present excerpts from G.F. Handel’s Messiah. In honor of the day’s earlier eclipse, excerpts focus on the Messiah’s death and resurrection and will include “The People That Walk in Darkness,” “Rejoice greatly” and the “Hallelujah” Chorus.

Fall Concert: Julie Andrijeski Returns

Renowned Baroque violinist Julie Andrijeski will return to her hometown of Boise, ID, to solo with the Boise Baroque Orchestra. She has graciously agreed to give a masterclass for Boise State University students, which will be sponsored fully by the Alexa Rose Foundation. While primarily geared toward Boise State students, this event is open to the public.

Unholy Wars closes the dusty history book and reframes the Crusades from a Middle Eastern perspective to reveal a new story of belonging and resilience. Conceived and created by Lebanese American tenor Karim Sulayman, music by Handel and Monteverdi is interwoven with that of composer Mary Kouyoumdjian to explore and reclaim representations of his identity. Reexamining Baroque interpretations of the Crusades and depictions of the Middle East, Sulayman asks "Can we lean into the discomfort of our collective history while forging a new path forward?"
