It is a beloved tradition of the Cologne Chamber Orchestra to musically welcome the New Year with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. And what could be better suited to this than Bach's magnificent orchestral suite or the second Brandenburg Concerto, which has a festive feel thanks to its trumpet ensemble? Bach's double concerto is one of his best-known works with the instruments favored in the Baroque era - above all the oboe. After Bach's death, the E major Violin Concerto slumbered for several decades - today it is a piece that is as popular as it is challenging. And thus a welcome task for the violinist Veronika Eberle, described as a "soulful sound designer". "Bach is a composer who always keeps you searching." Bach's music is like a house, "if the walls are up and you understand the structure, then you can move around freely in it," says the exceptional violinist.
