Three Scandinavian composers, three stops on an existential journey: Jean Sibelius opens with the "Scene with Cranes" from his incidental music to Järnefelt's "Kuolema" ("Death"). Here, the image of nature and the motif of death merge into a quiet vision of transition, in which the cranes appear as a peaceful escort between this world and the next. Wilhelm Stenhammar's concert overture "Excelsior!", in contrast, sparkles with vitality: a youthful manifesto, untamed and full of the spirit of optimism. Ibsen's "Peer Gynt," for which Edvard Grieg wrote his world-famous incidental music, extends the spectrum further—a life parable of self-realization and escape from responsibility, all the way to love and redemption.

But Frederick isn't idle: he's collecting sunbeams, colors, and words for long, gray winter days. The children's classic "Frederick" by Leo Lionni has accompanied generations of children. And when the hr Symphony Orchestra's family concert adds music by Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Schumann, Grieg, and Elgar, which brings Frederick's stories, the changing seasons, and the lives of field mice vividly to life, everything becomes even more beautiful and the story even more vibrant.

You can feel the vastness and harsh beauty of the country in his music. Jean Sibelius is considered the Finnish composer. His works were received with patriotic enthusiasm when Finland remembered its traditions. Sibelius conceived his second symphony on the Ligurian coast in the summer of 1901 and presented it to the public in Helsinki in March 1902. The melodies are reminiscent of Tchaikovsky and Slavic folk music. Cellist Bruno Philippe has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals in recent years, including the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich. The young Lithuanian conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė first attracted international attention in 2022 as the winner of the Neeme Järvi Prize from the renowned Gstaad Conducting Academy.
