The program also includes the "Carlos Drummond de Andrade Songs" by Maria Schneider, bringing a unique blend of classical and jazz elements to the evening.

Honored with five Grammy awards and the U.S. National Medal of Arts, Fleming has sung for momentous occasions from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Inspired by Fleming’s 2023 Grammy Award-winning album, Voice of Nature: the Anthropocene this special performance with pianist Gerald Martin Moore spans classical, romantic and contemporary music, exploring nature as both inspiration and victim of humanity. The National Geographic Society created an original video to reflect the musical selections.

There is a real sense of purity in the hundred poems that Pulitzer prize winner Ted Kooser wrote on his morning walks while he was undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer And there is also a crystalline beauty in the songs by composer Maria Schneider who set Kooser’s poems for string orchestra, jazz trio, and soprano. The phenomenal interweaving of poetry and music makes Winter Morning Walks an exceptional song cycle which has very rightly won three Grammy awards, and it also lends itself to a slightly unusual concert format.

Known for his mastery of every saxophone and unique instruments, multi-instrumentalist Scott Robinson is among the greatest improvisers of our time. “Scott has been a central part of my inspiration for over 30 years," says Maria Schneider, “his level of mastery and expressivity are in a category all his own.” Robinson performs works composed and arranged by Schneider, Guerra, and select Studio Jazz Writing Program composers.
