Psalms – they have been prayed and sung for almost 3000 years, first by Jews and later by Christians. They can also be found in the Koran. They are poetically bold, visually powerful poems, pleading prayers, dramatic laments, jubilant hymns. And they are all attributed to King David, the defensive and powerful ruler in the mythical early days of Judaism. The oldest psalms go back even further and tell of the time when the now feuding parties had their common cultural and cultic roots. This concert offers both: the passionate drama with the religious Christian-Jewish confession in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Baltic Cyrillus Kreek – and the change of perspective when Zad Moultaka, born in Lebanon, and Saed Haddad, who comes from Yemen, deal with these texts.
