"Gracias a la Vida" – "Thank You to Life" – is the title of our New Year's concert, which we'll be spicing up with a South American flair. We'll be playing tangos by Astor Piazzolla and songs by Violeta Parra and Consuelo Velázquez, whose compositions include "Bésame Mucho." We'll also be presenting hits by Gershwin and Ennio Morricone, as well as timelessly beautiful melodies by Bach, Ravel, and Mozart.

For this edition of our successful "Christmas Jazz" concerts, the BSOF's Monkfish Trio has invited one of the country's most renowned jazz singers. Since the 1980s, Pascal von Wroblewsky has shaped the jazz scene in Germany and Europe with her four-octave voice. She has performed with a wide variety of ensembles – from duos to symphony orchestras – and has given concerts with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, the RIAS Big Band, the Deutsche Oper Berlin Big Band, the Komische Oper Berlin Orchestra, the Berlin State Opera Orchestra, and repeatedly with the BSOF Big Band.

Experience swing and jazz classics with singer Sophie Grobler, jazz pianist Max Doehlemann, the Monkfish Jazz Trio of the BSOF, and always accompanied by our large orchestra. We're dedicated to the luminaries of swing and jazz: Miles Davis, Thelonius Monks, and Dave Brubeck.

What do we actually need these heavy, unwieldy gigantic violins called double basses for? Isn't it just very tedious to play these clunky things? Our orchestra goblin Oskar wants to know, and has therefore invited two double bass players from our orchestra. They will explain to him why a double bass has to be so big and thick, what it is used for in the orchestra, what lovely, cheerful music is created when two double basses join forces, and that double basses can do much more than just hum deeply.
