Beethoven's "Ninth" is a must at the end of the year in Frankfurt (Oder). How can you end the old year more conciliatory and look forward to the new one more peacefully than with the harmony and brotherhood celebrated in this symphony? But it is not just the message of Schiller's "Ode to Joy" that makes this symphony so unique. Its great wealth of musical ideas, the ingenious combination of many different motifs, musical forms that develop completely freely and finally the phenomenal 4th movement with the "Ode" make it one of the greatest works in music history.
