With Orlando, Virginia Woolf achieved her big breakthrough as a writer in 1928. With the novel, disguised as a biography and with a plot spanning several centuries, Woolf not only overcame her personal trauma of falling in love with the writer Vita Sackville-West, to whom she created a monument with Orlando . She also created one of the most dazzling novel characters of the last hundred years, who finds herself in a variety of roles in her search for her own identity: as a nobleman, as a lover, a desirer, a writer, a diplomat and - after a mysterious metamorphosis into a woman - finally as a wife and mother.
