Once you have heard this music, you will never forget it. Le Sacre' - not a few people pronounce the title with a mixture of awe, horror and fascination. Stravinsky's ballet music is and remains the standard bearer of the classical repertoire. If you wanted to describe the music that caused the biggest scandal in music history in Paris a good 100 years ago, you could use terms like orgy, black mass and high mass for the rhythm. It is dance music, but for a very different, dark kind of dance: earthy, throbbing, sharp-edged, brutal - music that still overwhelms and intoxicates today. At the time of the premiere, few people knew what they were witnessing.

Anyone who has ever heard this music will never forget it. "Le Sacre"—many still pronounce the title with a mixture of awe, horror, and fascination. Stravinsky's ballet music is and remains the system-breaker of the standard classical repertoire. If one wanted to describe the music that, just over 100 years ago, triggered what was probably the greatest scandal in music history—it was in Paris in 1913—terms like "orgy," "Black Mass," "High Mass for Rhythm" might come to mind. It is dance music, but for a completely different, dark kind of dance: earthbound, throbbing, sharp-edged, brutal. Where ballet had previously been expected to be as light as a feather, here everything literally bores into the subterranean depths. It is music that continues to overwhelm. And intoxicate. And that one simply never forgets. Back then, at the premiere, there were only a few who understood what event they were witnessing. One of these contemporary witnesses was able to describe it, this "new kind of wildness in both unartistic and artistic forms: all forms devastated, new ones suddenly emerging from the chaos." Alain Altinoglu and the hr-Sinfonieorchester will awaken the primal musical forces of "The Rite of Spring" in this Young People's Concert and unleash them with powerful sound in the Alte Oper.

In the first part, Emmanuel Pahud, a flute magician, takes on Khachaturian's Flute Concerto , a virtuoso piece with Armenian overtones. His unique artistry – velvety in the legato, sparkling in the dancing lines – reveals this little-known score where Caucasian folklore and pure virtuosity intertwine. Newly appointed to lead the Liège orchestra, Lionel Bringuier from Nice deploys a direction that is both precise and chiseled. His fluid gesture sculpts each nuance of the Concerto before plunging into the tormented ocean of the Pathétique . Tchaikovsky's ultimate masterpiece, this Symphony No. 6 becomes, under his baton, a path from shadows to light: sensual phrasings from the strings, heart-rending bursts of brass, crowned by this finale that fades into a whisper. A perfect dialogue between the dazzling soloist and a conductor at the height of his art, galvanizing his phalanx.

At the invitation of its Artistic Director, Renaud Capuçon, the OPRL made its debut with Lionel Bringuier at the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, immersing itself in Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony (1893) as he shared his quest for happiness, his emotional breakdown, and his unhappiness. To kick off the season, the hr Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the European Central Bank, invites you to the Europa Open Air concert series. In the unique atmosphere on the banks of the Main River in Frankfurt, you can expect another captivating summer concert evening with chief conductor Alain Altinoglu. Up to 20,000 visitors regularly enjoy the hr Symphony Orchestra's summer concerts on the banks of the Main. As always, supported by the Elisabethen Quelle Foundation, this year's program features popular orchestral works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Aram Khachaturian, and Gustav Holst, which have also enjoyed worldwide success in film. In addition, a rousing concerto for two pianos by Francis Poulenc and the renowned "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" by Franz Liszt will be performed. Earlier in the evening, the hr Big Band, featuring Wolfgang Haffner and special guest Shantel, will provide the first musical highlights and create a lively atmosphere on the banks of the Main. Named after the title character in Richard Strauss's opera "Arabella," Steinbacher grew up in a family of musicians and began playing the violin at the age of three. It's hardly surprising, then, that her personal connection to Strauss's music was practically instilled in her from birth. Ultimately, however, Arabella Steinbacher devotes herself to the entire violin repertoire and has been one of the great stars of the string firmament for many years. She performs not only as a soloist but also as a chamber music partner—for example, in a duo with the versatile pianist and arranger Peter von Wienhardt. With dance-like verve and sophisticated arrangements of well-known opera and ballet music, including, of course, music by Strauss, the two musicians present a spirited chamber concert.

On a single whiplash, the door opens to a world of colours and light: Maurice Ravel’s piano concerto in G Major is fascinating from the very first note. Conductor Anja Bihlmaier leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program that begins with the 19th-century French composer Mel Bonis's Trois femmes de legende, which musically portrays Ofelia, Salome and Cleopatra. NBSO clarinetist Nicholas Brown lends his artistry to Aram Khachaturian’s incisive Trio of 1932 and Brahms’s late, sublime Clarinet Trio, Op. 114. Darius Milhaud’s Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano was taken from the incidental music he wrote for Jean Anouilh’s 1937 play, Le voyageur sans bagage (The Traveler Without Luggage).
