Icarus' tragic flight - a metaphor for the fleeting intensity of life in which success and failure, freedom and death merge - also inspired Lera Auerbach. Her work "Icarus" invites you to experience music as a journey into the unknown: moving, imaginative, mythical. Even though Joseph Joachim, dedicatee of Antonín Dvořák's only violin concerto composed in 1879, never performed the work in public, it became a favorite among violinists and audiences. On this concert evening it will be interpreted by Diana Adamyan, who has had a meteoric career since winning the Yehudi Menuin International Competition in 2018. Peter Tchaikovsky's 3rd Symphony of 1875, in five movements and his only one in a major key, is often overshadowed by his later masterpieces. For conductor Vladislav Lavrik, this was a plausible reason to put it in the right light and perform it with the Jena Philharmonic in the second part of the concert.
