Music Of The Baroque: Windy City

William Buchman joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1992 after two seasons with the Dallas Symphony. He was appointed assistant principal bassoon in 1996 and has served as acting principal on multiple occasions, including all overseas tours between 2007 and 2014. In 2008 he performed and toured as guest principal bassoon with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Dame Jane Glover takes the podium for a joyful evening of music written centuries ago by four friends in Vienna—and performed today by good friends in Chicago. Music of the Baroque’s principal players become the soloists in two intimate sinfonie concertanti by Haydn and Dittersdorf. A symphony by Vanhal and Mozart’s Symphony No. 34 in C Major complete the circles.

Musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra come together for an afternoon of woodwind quintets performed on the UChicago campus. UChicago Presents is excited to host a chamber music concert that brings a chamber music ensemble from the orchestra to campus for the first time. This concert will feature works by W. A. Mozart, Carl Nielsen, and Max Raimi alongside a piece by UChicago’s own Augusta Read Thomas (a former CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence).
