The always-evolving Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble features musicians from the legendary Met Orchestra in a variety of unique programs. Together, along with special guest artists from the Metropolitan Opera and beyond, they explore a boundless world of chamber music, adapting to fit the instrumental needs of any piece—from all-time classics to hard-to-find hidden gems and standout works by many of today’s significant composers. In this wide-ranging program, they perform Brahms’s Sextet No. 2, and distinctive works by Saariaho and Paul Frucht.

For our third Masterworks, we asked for your vote and we have our final lineup! The program beings with Mendelssohn’s haunting  Hebrides Overture, followed by Concertmaster Leonid Sigal for a performance of Vieuxtemps’s 5th Violin Concerto—a rarely performed masterpiece by a 19th Century Belgian virtuoso. We close our performance with Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony—an impassioned work that moves from angst to blazing triumph.

Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony is lush yet restless, unfolding in long lines and vivid orchestral color. Under JoAnn Falletta, the BPO brings out both the intimacy and the sweep, moments that feel confessional followed by passages that bloom into full symphonic radiance. The program is framed by Paul Frucht’s Inextinguishable, adding a contemporary voice to a night rooted in emotional resonance. With Kara Dugan and Roger Honeywell as vocal soloists, the concert offers a broader canvas while keeping its center of gravity in depth, warmth, and expressive clarity.
