Join us for a delightful evening at the Portland Opera as we present Giuseppe Verdi's final masterpiece, "Falstaff." This fast-paced and rollicking comedy, with a libretto by Arrigo Boito, revolves around the witty yet scheming Sir John Falstaff. Vanity leads our knight to attempt to woo two wealthy married women for financial gain. However, his flimsy plan is quickly uncovered, and Alice Ford and Meg Page devise a scheme of their own to expose him. The opera is filled with merriment and mischief, culminating in Falstaff's ultimate humiliation and a heartwarming conclusion where love prevails.

Opera San José presents the Northern California premiere of Héctor Armienta’s Zorro. The famed masked vigilante comes alive in this swashbuckling opera filled with romance, humor, and suspense. Set in the early 1800s in el pueblo de Los Angeles, still a colony of Spain, this thrilling new work follows the adventures of the Spanish nobleman who hides his true identity behind a black mask to become Zorro, the dashing defender of the poor and enslaved. With a lush score influenced by mariachi, flamenco, and corrido music, Zorro leaps into dashing sword fights and passionate romance while battling tyranny and corruption and defending California’s disenfranchised and indigenous peoples. Latino stage director David Radamés Toro makes his OSJ debut.

Tosca, set in 1800s Rome, is a whirlwind of love, jealousy, and political intrigue starrings a fiery diva; her political activist lover, and the ruthless police chief who sees “no” as just a starting point. His obsession with Tosca is all of their downfall. 

Known for its intense drama and high-stakes twists, Tosca serves up enough passion, betrayal, and mayhem to keep even the toughest opera cynic hooked—because in Tosca, love conquers all, but not before a little murder.
