The Austrian Alps come to the rolling hills of Tulsa when the most beloved musical of all time do-re-mis its way onto the Tulsa Opera stage. Based on the true story of the singing von Trapp family and their courageous escape from the Nazis during World War II, The Sound of Music contains wall-to-wall hits such as “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Every Mountain”, and of course, the title tune. Our semi-staged and costumed concert features award-winning Broadway star Jenn Gambatese (Tarzan, Wicked, Hairspray) as the irrepressible Maria; Tulsa’s favorite leading man Sam Briggs as the rugged-yet-refined Captain von Trapp; and international opera legend Leona Mitchell as the Mother Abbess.

In Dean Burry’s adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy epic, the Elf King Elron asks Bilbo the Hobbit to create a musical drama about his adventures, resulting in a rollicking play-within-a-play complete with elves, goblins, Gollum, a mysterious Ring, and of course, the fire-breathing dragon, Smaug!

The Tulsa Opera Signature Chorale, the Tulsa Opera Orchestra, and four talented soloists, under the baton of Artistic Director Aaron Beck, join forces to offer an evening of transcendence from despair to hope, anguish to ecstasy, darkness to radiant light.

Sing Me a Waltz features choral selections from Strauss’s beloved operettas, timeless waltzes, and works by his contemporaries and admirers—all performed with piano and voices in rich harmony. From graceful melodies to buoyant rhythms, this all-choral program brings the elegance and charm of Vienna’s golden age to life with fresh energy and a festive spirit.

German American Society-Tulsa

Britten’s delightful retelling of the Noah’s Ark story is specially composed for children’s voices and performance in a church. The Tulsa Youth Opera will not only sing the roles, but will help create the set, props, and costumes for this charming, family-friendly show.
