Experience the sublime beauty of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, lovingly written in memory of the French composer’s father. Soprano Sarah Dufresne and baritone Xiaomeng Zhang join forces with the Vancouver Chamber Choir to present this monumental choral work of eternal serenity. Maestro Tausk leads the orchestra in Johannes Brahms’ Song of Destiny and Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto, dedicated by the composer to “the memory of an angel” and masterfully interpreted by violinist Maria Milstein.

Robert Oppenheimer, torn between scientific triumph and moral responsibility. John Adams's captivating drama, with a libretto by Peter Sellars, is based on historical accounts, poems, and documentary statements. It offers a multifaceted perspective on the destructive power of human invention. Internationally renowned artist Vanessa Beecroft, known for her monumental and provocative tableaux of the human body that straddle performance, conceptual art, and sculpture, makes her directorial debut at the Zurich Opera House with this production.

Verdi’s opera, centred around the young courtesan Violetta’s love for the upper-class Alfredo, enjoys a constant presence at opera houses across the world. La traviata’s themes of love, sacrifice and tragedy make for an evening of almost constant, compelling drama, driven along by memorable tunes and richly coloured orchestration, while its glorious vocal writing has made it a perennial favourite among the greatest opera singers.
