Hungarian composer Béla Bartók explores folk melodies of his home country in the personal orchestral composition Hungarian Pictures. The Santa Maria Philharmonic welcomes guest violin soloist Jessica Guideri to help close the concert and season with a performance of Édouard Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, the late 19th Century French composer’s musical depiction of Spain.

WMP’s electrifying season finale ‘Music of the Americas’ features a splendid array of music from North, Central and South America. Puerto Rican composer Angélica Negrón’s (currently based in Brooklyn, New York) work has been described as “wistfully idiosyncratic and contemplative". Her piece Tornasol (Spanish for sunflower) is a work that focuses on the vibrancy of color and how it changes through scientific experimentation, all portrayed in various sections of the orchestra. In contrast, guest artist Colin Davin will perform Concierto del Sur, a masterpiece for guitar and orchestra by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce. The second half of the program includes music that is lively, rhythmic, and exciting. El Salón México by Aaron Copland depicts scenes and imagery from his experience at a popular dance hall in Mexico City. Four Dance Episodes from Alberto Ginastera’s ballet La Estancia incorporates Argentinian folk music that represent dance, character, and settings of life on the ranch. We conclude the program with Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez – a seductive, yet melancholy and irresistible ballroom dance inspired by the Cuban Habanera performed by full orchestra.

16-time Grammy Award-winner Béla Fleck joins the CSO for a celebration of the American sound. Fleck’s reimagining of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue pays homage to the legendary composer while redefining an all-time classic. Contemporaries Florence Price and Aaron Copland did the same in their time, shaping, contextualizing and creating indelible music that feels like it was always here. Copland’s ballet music to Rodeo, featuring the rip-roaring and instantly recognizable "Hoe-Down," became a new soundtrack to the American West. Florence Price, merging traditional African American themes with the latest music of her day, established a singular voice all her own.

During the 10-year period between 1987 and 1997, while still in Argentina, Mr. Azzati held many positions as a choral director in many different settings, including Elementary, Middle and High School, church and community.  Among other positions Mr. Azzati was the Associate Conductor of the award-winning National Youth Choir of Argentina, Director of Choral Activities and Conductor of the award-winning choirs at the K-12 St. Agnes School, Director of Choral Activities and Conductor at the K-12 St. Andrew's School, Artistic Director and Conductor of Grupo Coral Kantus, a college-age youth community chorus, and Director of the Chorale de L’Alliance Française of Martínez.
