Acclaimed singer-songwriter Gregory Porter was raised in Bakersfield, California, and he cites the Bakersfield Southern gospel sound, as well as his mother’s Nat King Cole record collection, as fundamental influences on his own sound. In 2013, he released his breakout Blue Note debut Liquid Spirit, which sold more than a million albums and earned Porter his first Grammy Award, with NPR declaring him “America’s Next Great Jazz Singer.” His 2016 follow-up, Take Me to the Alley, won Porter his second Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album and established him as his generation’s most soulful jazz singer-songwriter. His 2021 release Still Rising collected new songs, covers, duets and a selection of his favorite songs. Concertgoers can expect to hear a selection of material from across Porter’s Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning albums.

Entitled Christmas Wish it is a loving tribute to his favorite time of year – and to great songwriters, singers, and interpreters including Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Dinah Washington, and Nat King Cole. In addition to this list of world-class names, Porter himself has added to the Christmas songbook with three original tracks, soon to be favorites for the festive season, including the first single “Everything’s Not Lost” which is out now.

Astronauts and royalty alike agree: Porter provided a rendition of “America the Beautiful” during the launch of NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover in 2020, as well as a performance for Queen Elizabeth during the Queen’s Jubilee celebration.

It's the moments spent together, the feeling of security, hope and warmth – and, of course, the wonderful music that can be heard everywhere. Gregory Porter has captured all of this beautifully on his 2023 album ‘Christmas Wish’ and will be taking it on a major tour of Germany this December. The fact that he will also be stopping off in Frankfurt with great soul songs and atmospheric Christmas classics in jazzy arrangements is, of course, particularly pleasing to our pre-Christmas hearts. When his warm, dark voice is accompanied not only by his band, but also by a string quartet, a harp and three singers under the direction of Magnus Lindgren, Christmas can finally come!
