On June 29, 2024, Nabil Shehata gave his farewell performance as artistic director of the Südwestfalen Philharmonic. A search committee consisting of representatives from the orchestra, the sponsoring association, the support association, and district politicians, chaired by the district administrator, is currently deliberating on who he will pass the baton to.

The position at the helm of the State Orchestra in Siegen is undoubtedly in demand: Nearly 250 conductors from many different countries applied. "The response to the position was even greater than the last advertisement – ​​we are naturally very pleased about this. It shows that the South Westphalia Philharmonic is a sought-after orchestra and of interest to conductors from all over the world," said District Administrator Andreas Müller.
