Since the early 1980s, she has released 14 albums, toured internationally, and brought the traditional joik, this ancient singing form of the Sami people from the Arctic regions of Sweden, Norway, and Finland, to warmer corners of the world. Now she is coming to the Elbphilharmonie with her latest album, "Alva," as part of the "Arctic Voices" festival.

Mystical, gentle and at the same time powerful – Mari Boine’s singing exudes a magic all of its own. She is not only a singer but also an activist, campaigning for women’s rights and for Sámi culture. Since the 1990s she has been recognised in world music as one of Norway’s most compelling voices. Musically, she fuses the traditional Sámi joik with jazz, folk and rock – creating a sound that is entirely her own. In her new programme Alva, Mari Boine celebrates the cultural heritage of her people and the wisdom of her ancestors.
