Join acclaimed countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo in an evening of arias by Handel and Vivaldi, accompanied by historical performance specialists Twelfth Night. One of today’s biggest opera stars, Costanzo recently produced and starred in The Comet/Poppea at Lincoln Center in June. His debut solo album, Glass/Handel, paired the two iconic composers and was subsequently toured as an innovative, live multi-media spectacle.

Spotlighting LGBTQ+ artists of today and those who have made lasting impacts across centuries of music, Classical Pride makes its US debut at the Hollywood Bowl this July. "Classical music is—and has been for a very long time—part of queer culture, and it’s about time we celebrated this,” writes Oliver Zeffman, curator and conductor of the program.

For the inaugural performance in the Frick’s stunning Stephen A. Schwarzman Auditorium, the acclaimed Jupiter Ensemble and mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre bring their unparalleled energy and vitality to the music of George Frideric Handel. Led by lutenist Thomas Dunford, the Jupiter Ensemble has garnered critical acclaim for its interpretations of music by Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, and Monteverdi. To mark this special event, superstar countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will join Dunford for the world premiere of a new work by American composer Nico Muhly, inspired by Giovanni Bellini’s St. Francis in the Desert, an iconic painting from the Frick’s permanent collection.

MacArthur Award-winning playwright and librettist Sarah Ruhl joins Anthony Roth Costanzo to co-conceive a tapestry of Vivaldi’s music, telling an original story about a world in which the seasons are completely out of order.
