Anthony Marwood appears again, now with leading British string soloists Lawrence Power and Paul Watkins for Tippett’s Triple Concerto, a late work of intense glowing lyricism. Among younger British composers, Adès admires Oliver Leith’s works and, at his request, the Hallé has commissioned a new work from him. A multiple award winner, Leith’s music has been called ‘curiously addictive’ (The Guardian) and has been receiving high profile premieres by the BBC, Royal Opera House and at Tanglewood in the USA.

Abel Selaocoe’s expansive imagination knows no barriers — our newest Artistic Partner embraces singing, dancing, composition and improvisation equally in joyful and powerful music-making. His recent cello concerto, Four Spirits, is drawn from his South African roots and seeks to create a communal experience with the audience. Selaocoe weaves together many traditions on a program that also features music by composers Julia Perry and Jessie Montgomery.
