Supporting young musicians is especially close to Anne-Sophie Mutter’s heart. To this end, she founded the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation in 2008 and can now look back on an impressive roster of distinguished scholarship recipients, including Vilde Frang, Sergey Khachatryan, Daniel Müller-Schott, and Kian Soltani. Her latest discovery is Elias David Moncado, born in 2000: a German-Spanish-Malaysian violinist who won the Grand Prix and ten special prizes at the Karol Lipiński Competition in Poland, gave his first recital at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2025, and will release his debut album on the Warner Classics label in 2026. For this Lucerne debut, he will perform Maurice Ravel’s irresistible Violin Sonata, an American-inspired work with a “blue” movement at its center. Playing the “Ludwig, ex-Szigeti” Stradivari, he will also tackle high-virtuoso fare such as Franz Waxman’s finger-breaking Carmen Fantasie. And four more of Mutter’s protégés will also appear in this extraordinary debut concert, performing two brand-new pieces that Anne-Sophie Mutter commissioned especially for them to mark the 50th anniversary of her Lucerne stage debut — works now receiving their world premieres. For championing new music is another of this great virtuoso’s passions.

You can simply go to a concert at the Philharmonie, spontaneously, during your lunch break – and with free admission: every Wednesday at 13:00 between September and June. The programme lasts 40 to 50 minutes: chamber music, piano works or a percussion duo – everything from Tchaikovsky to tango. Members of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Karajan-Akademie regularly perform, as well as guests from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Berlin music conservatories. As can be expected at a lunch concert, catering is available from 12 noon until shortly before the concert begins.

Eleven weeks of music lie ahead when the 38th Rheingau Music Festival opens at the end of June in the basilica of Eberbach Monastery. Eleven weeks full of musical diversity and enjoyable conviviality. We think it's a good reason to celebrate! In 2025, the opening concert of the Rheingau Music Festival will feature a wide range of diverse sounds: works by Maurice Ravel, whose 150th birthday the music world and we too are celebrating this year, by Pablo de Sarasate, Franz Waxman, and Charles Gounod—namely, his solemn "Cecilia Mass"—will immerse the monastery in musical color this evening. In keeping with tradition, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, under its chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, will take to the stage, bringing the unique architectural monument to life in rich musical splendor at the opening of this year's Rheingau Music Festival.

In keeping with tradition, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt), under the baton of its chief conductor, opens the Rheingau Music Festival each year. The impressive acoustics of the Eberbach Abbey Basilica always create a unique musical atmosphere. The centerpiece of the 2025 opening concerts, conducted by Alain Altinoglu, is Charles Gounod's "St. Cecilia Mass." On June 21st at Eberbach Abbey, this will be paired with a Ravel-Sarasate-Waxman program featuring the Armenian violin virtuoso Diana Adamyan. On June 22nd at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, two works by Ravel will be performed with the Italian pianist Beatrice Rana. Alongside an internationally renowned trio of vocal soloists, the MDR Radio Choir, the hr-Sinfonieorchester's well-known and highly esteemed musical partner, will once again be featured in both programs.

Traditionally, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra welcomes the New Year with an attractive and entertaining program in the festive atmosphere of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus - this time under the direction of the Portuguese conductor Nuno Coelho. The chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias and the South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim present a rousing musical program that combines French esprit, Spanish temperament and Mediterranean timbres.

The first half of the last century saw a remarkable flowering of new music for viola, inspired in part by the influence of the great violist Lionel Tertis, in part by composer-performers such as Cecil Forsyth and Paul Hindemith. The Passacaglia from the latter’s expressionist Sonata for solo viola Op. 11 No. 5 provides a powerful contrast to the gentle lyricism and sparky energy of York Bowen’s two Duos and radiant beauty of his Romance in A. Timothy Ridout includes the rhapsodic eloquence of Forsyth’s Chanson Celtique and the Lament that Frank Bridge first performed at Wigmore Hall with Tertis in 1912.
