A disciple of Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson, Stefon Harris belongs to the grand lineage of vibraphonists in jazz. A member of the SFJAZZ Collective from 2007-13, Harris has performed with Joe Henderson, Wynton Marsalis, Buster Williams, Kenny Barron, Cassandra Wilson and many other legends, and made his recording debut as a leader on Blue Note Records in 1998, when he was only 25. His ongoing Blackout project pays tribute to the jazz pantheon while exploring closely related territories: pop, R&B, hip-hop. His forthcoming album, LEGACY DANCES, is his fifth with the band.

Bebop, cool jazz, hard bop or jazz rock – none of these styles would be imaginable without Miles Davis. More than any other musician, the trumpeter and bandleader reshaped the course of jazz through constant reinvention. His cool, often rough trumpet tone became his unmistakable trademark. In 2026, Miles Davis would have turned 100 – an occasion that curator Siggi Loch marks by opening the 14th season of Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic with a tribute to the legendary musician. American trumpet star Theo Croker joins forces with his quartet and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, conducted by Geir Lysne, for Miles 100.

From the time he started appearing on stages in the mid-1940s until his final performance, at the Hollywood Bowl in 1991, Miles Davis could do anything. He was not only present for every twist and turn jazz made as it rose to prominence following World War II; he was usually responsible for them. It is, simply put, impossible to imagine the history of jazz without him. In honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth, an all-star gathering of musicians come together for one night only to celebrate the man and play some of the most mind-expanding and influential music ever composed.
