As First Associate Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2011, he was regularly featured as soloist at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl in repertoire spanning the 17th to the 21st centuries. Prior to this position, he was a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony. He has appeared as guest concertmaster with the orchestras of Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Houston, Ottawa, Seattle, and Portland, Oregon.

Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" is a captivating chamber music piece that tells the story of a soldier who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for unlimited wealth and knowledge. Time weaves its tapestry, as the soldier's violin weeps in longing, battling against the siren call of temptation. Composed during Stravinsky's transitional period, it showcases his innovative use of rhythm, harmonies, and instrumentation. Stravinsky’s presence in Los Angeles greatly influenced the local music scene, inspiring a new generation of composers and performers and contributing to the cultural richness of the city.

From thundering spring storms to a serene winter day, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons cleverly paints the passage of time. The LA Phil’s First Associate Concertmaster performs this set of artfully constructed concertos that have become some of the most loved music ever written. New Zealand-born Gemma New leads the orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s own interpretation of the seasons as well as a work by Jessie Montgomery that was inspired by Vivaldi’s masterwork.

Joining BSO Assistant Conductor Anna Handler in her Symphony Hall debut with the BSO is concertmaster Nathan Cole making his Symphony Hall debut as a concerto soloist. Principal Viola Steven Ansell is Cole’s solo partner in Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante, a vivacious masterpiece. American composer Gabriella Smith’s Bioluminescence Chaconne uses the natural world as a metaphor for musical structure and process, or vice versa — part of a multi-season programmatic focus exploring artists’ responses to our environment. Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet score Swan Lake, for all its supernatural, fairytale narrative, is also very much in the realm of nature pieces. Its lush, romantic music is some of the most familiar in the repertoire.
