"Hansel and Gretel" is one of the most exciting stories of German Romanticism, contained in the famous collection of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. In the unsurpassed musical setting by the late Romantic composer Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921), it is also one of the most beautiful—for many, even "the" most beautiful—fairytale operas in all of musical literature. It appeals to both adult and young audiences and has provided many a first unforgettable operatic experience.

Mozart and da Ponte's masterpiece was titled "Dramma Giocoso" – a cheerful drama. A multi-layered subject, a piece to both chuckle and indignant. Don Giovanni, the famous myth of the seducer and womanizer Don Juan, is presented. He ultimately surpasses his arrogance and unsurpassable audacity at the grave of a victim of his machinations by inviting the statue of the deceased to a feast. This ballad, which became popular worldwide as a standalone piece through pop stars, jazz singers, and chansoniers, is the beginning of one of the most striking plays of the 20th century.
