For 25 years, they have worked tirelessly to keep the family farm afloat, in part to support Sonja’s father, a professor living in the city. Now, having retired and fallen on hard times, he has moved to the farm with his much younger wife, Jelena—whose beauty proves a dangerous distraction for both Vanya and the doctor, Astrov.
