LIMINA 2025: NAMES ensemble

In the venerable space of Salzburg's Collegiate Church, a program from the Ouverture spirituelle series unfolds, connecting past and present in a visionary musical language. The focus is on the mysterious prophecies of the Sibyls – seers of antiquity – as set to music with iridescent chromaticism by Orlando di Lasso in his motet cycle Prophetiae Sibyllarum. These extraordinary works will be heard at the beginning and end of the evening, thus spanning a musical arc across the centuries. With prophecies by contemporary composer Beat Furrer, alto, contrabass clarinet, and accordion enter into a whisperingly intimate dialogue that sheds new light on the fragility and urgency of prophetic voices. Arvo Pärt's haunting composition Sarah Was Ninety Years Old, with minimalist intensity, focuses on the promise and wonder of the unexpected – a spiritual experience, carried by the unique sound combination of vocals, percussion, and organ. The musicians are Helena Sorokina (alto), Marco Sala (double bass clarinet), Krassimir Sterev (accordion), Manuel Alcaraz Clemente (percussion), Alexander Bauer (organ) and the vocal ensemble Cantando Admont under the direction of Cordula Bürgi.
