The Liederabend with Lydia Rathkolb (soprano) and Maximilian Flieder (piano) is dedicated to those voices of classical music who were silenced by political upheaval and marginalization—or forced into exile. Starting with the very first Lieder evening of the Salzburg Festival in August 1945, the program features works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Gustav Mahler, and Alma Mahler, complemented by rarely performed songs by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Erich Zeisl, Iván Eröd, and Leonard Bernstein.
