Friends are the people who stay with us for life – or at least we think so. From the sandbox to school to the retirement home, they accompany us. They protect us from loneliness, help us get over losses, and know our secrets. They are the first relationships we consciously choose for ourselves and play a special role, especially during puberty, when we distance ourselves from our parents and begin to search for our identity. Who do I want to belong to? What group do I want to be a part of? The people we surround ourselves with have a huge influence on how we perceive ourselves.
