David Krakauer and Kathleen Tagg present a passionate, eclectic and highly personal musical journey called “Breath & Hammer”. Their program offerings range from completely acoustic programs, to programs with loops and samples to large-scale projects with live visual projections, visual design and surround-sound.

This concert will leave you in awe, starting with Mozart’s Overture to Abduction from the Seraglio, K.384. Prepare to be blown away by David Krakauer’s stunning performance of Wlad Marhulets’ Concerto for Klezmer Clarinet, which combines traditional klezmer (traditional Jewish & East European) music with classical instrumentation to create a truly unique and captivating sound. As for Mahler’s emotional masterpiece Symphony No. 1 in D major, “Titan,” you will understand why this performance is subtitled Titans of Sound.

Bask in the lavish sounds of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade, which depicts various tales from the celebrated poetic epic 1,001 Arabian Nights. Its lush tapestry of musical storytelling has enchanted audiences for more than a century, making it one of the most popular orchestral works ever written. First, clarinet virtuoso David Krakauer guides us through the history of klezmer, the rich Eastern European Jewish musical tradition passed down through generations of folk musicians across the globe. Then, we hear the Pacific Northwest premiere of The Fretless Clarinet, a new klezmer-inspired concerto co-written by Krakauer and his partner Kathleen Tagg.
