Opening Night features the first commission from our new Composer Chair, Carlos Simon, dedicated to Andris Nelson’s 10th anniversary season as music director. Our soloists for the evening include superstar mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, dazzling husband-and-wife pianists Lang Lang and Gina Alice Redlinger, and the winner of the 2023 Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, the brilliant newcomer violinist Keila Wakao.

Celebrations of nature’s renewal.  Fusing the glory of the baroque and the seduction of the tango.  Be embraced by Vivaldi’s “Summer” and “Autumn” from “The Four Seasons,” and captivated by the rhythms of Piazzolla’s “Winter” and “Spring” from “The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.” Menuhin Richmond 2021 Junior First-Prize Winner Keila Wakao joins the Richmond Symphony.

Salon de Virtuosi presents its acclaimed Gala Awards Concert, featuring 2023 Career Grant Winners Renee Murphy, Harp, Keila Wakao, Violin, Daniel Hodos, Violin, Merz Trio, Ivalas Quartet and 2020 Career Grant Winner Remi Geniet, Piano. The program will showcase works by Debussy, Ravel, Brahms, Chausson, Vasks and others.

This concert marks the world premiere of First Symphony Composer-in-Residence Angélica Negrón’s Sinfonía Isleña, complemented by Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.

Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s thrilling Violin Concerto has it all — sweeping melodies, virtuosic fireworks, and a heart-warming canzonetta that will fill your soul. We open with Johannes Brahms’s contemplative overture and then experience the world premiere of Puerto Rican-born composer Angélica Negrón’s first-ever symphony, Sinfonía Isleña.
